Company Chapel

| Back to Historic Oella |

The frame Chapel at 003 Della Avenue was provided by the Company owners and was erected in 1904. This chapel served the community of Della until about 1968, when the construction of a large new church was completed on the west side of Westchester Avenue at the junction of Rockwell Avenue. After discontinuing services the old chapel at
803 Oella Avenue was pressed into service as a "sewing room" to handle expanded production. After the mill shut down in 1972, the rear areas of the chapel were used as offices, in which Mr. Wagandt conducted rental activities. The base of the chapel's tower remains but the belfry, or uppermost portion of the spire was removed. The old tower bell which had summoned the residents of Della to worship for so many decades was acquired by William J. Dickey II as a keepsake.
