Why I enjoy gardening. In the garden it feels like I am one of Nature's helpers with the bees, butterflies, birds, and more - no music just natural sounds and an occasional visiting neighbor.

It all began when I was a pre-teen, after fire was invented; my mother tried to teach me what she so enjoyed - plants.  It was clear that I was not interested and years later, who knew?  Now Mom is delighted that not even darkness deters me from being among flowers or vegetables.  Oh yes, I too am surprised at my outdoor enjoyment, including fall and winter and garden times.

For the first five years the garden size increased, and each later year I promised to reduce the size of the garden and did the opposite.  The rotated crops include Habanero Peppers, Okra, Pumpkin, Butternut Squash, Zucchini, Black Eyed Peas (used as snap peas), Yard Long Bean http://www.evergreenseeds.com/asbeanyarbea.html, Bok Choy, and recurring Tomatoes.  My favorites: Habaneros and Okra, sometimes cooked together.

Ten years ago the garden planning started around April, and this summer plans are in action for 2015. Marva
